Overview

Thermo Mass Photo/S is a simultaneous measurement system in which a skimmer type gas introduction interface and a soft ionization (photoionization) technique are integrated in a combination system of thermogravimetric-differential thermal analyzer and mass spectrometer. Measurements are carried out by heating the sample. The TG-DTA measures the thermogravimetric (TG) change and the thermal difference (DTA), while the evolved gaseous products are analyzed by the quadrupole mass spectrometer (QMS) which is injected towards the QMS consisting of a gas injection system.

Combining the fragment less soft-ionization technique and the ideal skimmer-type gas interface to measure the masses of the evolved gases with high accuracy, the gases are analyzed in real time even when multicomponent gases are generated simultaneously. The evolved gas analysis coupled with TG-DTA and QMS can be measured from room temperature to 1,000°C.

Improved performance and safe measurement

Combining the differential balance control and the horizontal triple-coil balance system improves the measurement stability of TG baseline and S/N ratio enabling a high sensitive measurement compared to the conventional type.

Aside from the temperature control method derived from the conventional temperature control program, high resolution thermal analysis is possible using the controlled rate thermal analysis (dynamic controlled method) because the heating rate is automatically controlled depending on the physical changes of the sample.

It is equipped with 2 different modes, namely electron ionization (EI) and soft ionization by photoionization (PI), which are available with just one-click on the software, suitable for qualitative analysis of evolved gases.

  • Skimmer-type interface

Since it adopts the skimmer type interface which is composed of a double orifice structure based on the jet separator principle, we have achieved a more compact design than the conventional capillary method.

  • Photo Ionization (PI)

The soft ionization method using VUV (vacuum ultraviolet) lamp enables ionization of molecular ions suppressing fragmentation. Through this, we can confirm the molecular ions (parent ions) in a fragment-free spectrum.

Since the conventional electron ionization is installed, by comparing the EI and PI results, we can obtain a more detailed evolved gas analysis result

Safety and easy maintenance

The system is designed for the user’s safety in which the furnace is inaccessible when the temperature is high and the ease of replacing the sample holders and the skimmer interfaces.

User-friendly analysis software

The TG-DTA measurement result can be processed in a detailed data analysis using the standard analysis software. Moreover, multiplots of TG, DTA, temperature, and the mass spectral data (MS thermogram) can be displayed in real-time as well as after measurement. Since it is installed with an ASCII conversion software as a standard, the mass spectral data and the thermal analysis data can be easily utilized in other software.
