Automated Cell Culture Analyzer with Maintenance-Free Chemistry Sensors
The BioProfile FLEX2 cell culture analyzer combines Nova’s groundbreaking MicroSensorTM Card technology with optical measurement and freezing point osmometry to create an automated and comprehensive cell culture analyzer that eliminates chemistry sensor maintenance, increases analyzer speed, and reduces sample volume. Gluc, Lac, Gln, Glu, NH4+, Na+, K+, Ca++, pH, PCO2, PO2, total cell density, viable cell density, viability, cell diameter, and osmolality are among the 16 cell culture tests available.
Module | Analysis Time | Sample Size |
Gas Module: | 120 sec | 275 μl |
Chemistry Module: Gluc, Lac, Gln, Glu, NH4+, Na+, K+, Ca++ | 120 sec | 135 μl |
Osmometry Module: Osmolality | 240 sec | 145 μl |
Cell Density/Viability Module: Total cell density, viability, cell diameter | 240 sec | 135 μl |
Online sampling is possible with BioProfile FLEX2. From single-use bench scale bioreactors to large production bioreactors, Nova’s FLEX2 On-Line Autosampler (OLS) allows completely automated sampling from almost all culture systems. FLEX2 with OLS transmits real-time data for automated sampling, analysis, and feedback control of all measured parameters when connected to an OPC-compatible control system. The OLS can link up to ten vessels, and a full bench of ten bioreactors may be set up in under 20 minutes.
Nova has also linked the FLEX2 analyzer with ambr 15 and 250 microbioreactors to give a fully automated solution. The External Sampling Module (ESM) of FLEX2 automatically transports cell culture samples from ambr® 250 and ambr® 15 microbioreactor systems to FLEX2 for analysis.

The RMS from FLEX2 includes smart reagent cartridges that are simple to use and refill.
• RMS records the date and time of cartridge installation, as well as the lot number and expiration date.
• A self-contained trash receptacle within the cartridge minimises direct waste handling and direct interaction with hazardous trypan blue and biological contaminants, maximising analyzer readiness. Other systems can expose operators to considerable waste management risks.
