What does a polarimeter do?
The rotation of polarised light as it passes through an optically active substance or choral compound is measured by a polarimeter. The plane of polarisation will spin by an amount proportional to the product through which it passed. The measurement of optical rotation with a polarimeter is widely used as a production control and quality assurance tool in the sugar, food, chemical, and pharmaceutical manufacturing industries.
A range of polarimeters to suit your needs
Bellingham + Stanley manufactures high quality digital polarimeters for use in a variety of applications. ADP600 Series polarimeters are Peltier temperature controlled polarimeters designed to meet the needs of the most demanding applications within the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. ADP600 Series polarimeters are ideal instruments for scientists wishing to research the characteristics of chiral compounds. The ADP600 Series polarimeters vary by wavelength of measurement, including the highly sensitive ultra-violet region but all feature an integral METHODS system, high definition touchscreen and are capable of measuring to 4 decimal places. ADP400 Series polarimeters offer measurement to 3 decimal places and come packed full of features normally reserved for high-end instrumentation and is available with or without Bellingham + Stanley’s patented XPC temperature control technology.
Common software is present throughout Bellingham + Stanley’s range of polarimeters and refractometers, through coloured accents to METHODS systems and key commands. Choose to make Bellingham + Stanley standard in your lab or factory and benefit from joined-up thinking across instruments such as the polarimeters you see here, or our range of accurate, high quality refractometers.
Polarimeters to help you comply with FDA Title 21 CFR Part 11
Bellingham + Stanley digital polarimeters meet all pharmacopoeia requirements and are acceptable for use in high security locations in compliance with FDA regulation 21 CFR Part 11. More information on how Bellingham + Stanley can help you comply with regulations may be found on our 21 CFR Part 11 blog.
ADP430 Polarimeter
The ADP430 digital polarimeter is a fully featured instrument designed for use in applications where internal temperature control is not required or where the use of automatic temperature compensation or a water bath is preferred, such as within the food industry.
ADP450 Polarimeter
The ADP450 digital polarimeter with patented XPC technology features interchangeable contact Peltier plates facilitating measurement at a stable temperature using Peltier control. XPC technology conveniently stabilises the temperature of the sample being measured. With SMART temperature stability enabled, the ADP450 will only give a result when the instrument has displayed a stable temperature over a predetermined timeframe, making for reliable results in compliance with good laboratory practice.
ADP600 Polarimeters
Available as single, dual and multiple wavelength derivatives not only covering the visible spectrum, the new ADP600 Series of Peltier temperature controlled digital polarimeters are capable of measuring optical rotation to four decimal places in the highly sensitive ultra-violet region. This capability makes the instrument particularly suited for use by scientists wishing to measure chiral compounds and other optically active substances in the chemical, pharmaceutical and food sectors as well as for use in academic research.
Polarimeter Tubes
Bellingham + Stanley manufactures a range of polarimeter tubes built to high quality standards conforming to ICUMSA recommendations. To achieve the highest accuracy, optical rotation tube ends are precision ground with windows made from specially selected low strain glass. It is important to note that polarimeter tubes from Bellingham + Stanley are compatible with most makes of polarimeter around the world.
