MicroBAM

L&LB

MicroBAM provides the possibility to visualize monolayers at the air-water interface in a Langmuir trough.

What you can do

  • Monolayer/film homogeneity. When combined with a KSV NIMA L&LB Trough, observation can be performed during compression/expansion at known surface pressures. Verifying the homogeneity of the monolayer already prior to deposition will speed up the research considerably.

  • Optimizing the deposition parameters. For a high quality LB coating, the measurement parameters such as compression speed, waiting times, temperature and subphase content need to be optimized. With MicroBAM it is easy to study the effects of these parameters and choose the optimal conditions.

  • Monolayer/film behavior. It is possible to observe phase changes, phase separation, domain size, shape and packing.

  • Monitoring of surface reactions. For example, photochemical reactions, polymerization reactions as well as enzyme kinetics can be followed in real-time.

  • Monitoring and detection of surface active materials. For example protein adsorption and nanoparticle flotation.

Standard Langmuir Troughs are available in multiple sizes—small, medium, or large—and can be tailored to suit specific research needs. Smaller trough tops are preferred for experiments involving expensive molecules, while larger systems offer ample space for additional characterization instruments and provide a higher compression ratio.

KSV NIMA Langmuir-Blodgett Deposition Troughs (LB Troughs) offer the same functionalities as KSV NIMA Langmuir Troughs, allowing for the fabrication and study of Langmuir films. Additionally, LB Troughs enable the coating of these thin films onto solid substrates, resulting in a highly organized particle coating.

Equipped with a dipping well and dipping mechanism, LB Troughs facilitate the transfer of films with the desired packing density. Typical materials for deposition include nanoparticles, graphene, lipids, polymers, microparticles, and various functional organics. The coating process can be performed vertically (Langmuir-Blodgett) or horizontally (Langmuir-Schaeffer), depending on the configuration chosen.
