XtaLAB Synergy-R

XtaLAB Synergy-R Overview

The XtaLAB Synergy-R can be configured with Rigaku’s advanced hybrid photon counting (HPC) detectors, including the HyPix-6000HE or the curved HyPix-Arc 100° and 150° options. Designed for crystallographers who require a high-performance, well-integrated diffractometer using a single rotating anode port, the Synergy-R delivers exceptional high-flux output combined with the low-noise benefits of an HPC detector.

The system now features the new UG3 goniometer, enabling faster and more efficient data collection. Details on the UG3 are available on its overview page.

PhotonJet-R

Derived from the proven MicroMax™-007 HF platform—trusted globally with over 1000 installations—the PhotonJet-R represents the next generation of high-performance rotating anode sources. Built directly onto the goniometer, it offers outstanding stability and reliability. Its confocal optics, designed by Rigaku Innovative Technologies, deliver a high-brilliance beam, while an optional continuously variable slit assembly allows users to balance brilliance and divergence based on sample needs.

Proven Reliability

The PhotonJet-R is engineered for long-term dependability. The filament design allows quick, alignment-free replacement—similar to swapping a printer cartridge. Routine maintenance requires only one annual service visit, typically completed within 1–2 days. With the anode exchange program, users enjoy rotating-anode power with sealed-tube convenience.

Beam Conditioning

For samples with overlapping peaks—such as large unit cells, twins, or incommensurate lattices—managing beam divergence is crucial. The PhotonJet-R’s optional motorized variable beam slit, controlled via software, allows precise adjustment between 1 and 10 mrad. Open the slit fully for maximum flux or narrow it when peak sharpness is essential.

HyPix Detectors

Rigaku’s HyPix HPC detectors utilize solid-state pixel array technology for direct, instantaneous X-ray photon counting—eliminating the need for scintillator conversion and resulting in virtually noise-free images. Featuring a 100 Hz frame rate, they support fine slicing at high goniometer speeds. Dual-counter architecture offers multiple operating modes, including RACE (zero-dead-time) acquisition and a high dynamic range with 31-bit counter depth, plus differential and selective signal suppression through dual thresholding.

CrysAlisPro

The XtaLAB Synergy-R is powered by CrysAlisPro, Rigaku’s comprehensive software suite for data collection and processing. With an intuitive graphical interface, it supports automatic, semi-automatic, and manual operation. It integrates automated crystal screening, advanced strategy planning, simultaneous data reduction, and automatic small-molecule structure solution. Dedicated workflows are available for both protein and small-molecule crystallography, with compatibility for popular third-party protein processing packages. Visual, color-coded guidance ensures fast, high-quality data collection for users of all experience levels.

AutoChem

AutoChem enhances productivity for small-molecule chemists by providing rapid, fully automated structure solution and refinement during data collection. Developed with OlexSys Ltd. (Durham University, UK), it works seamlessly with Olex² for advanced refinement options. Integrated within CrysAlisPro, AutoChem powers the “What is this?” feature, which identifies structures early—saving time by preventing unnecessary full-dataset collections on known or starting materials.
